Shaping the Future of Personal Care & Clean beauty: Reflections on the 2026 ASEAN Technology Summit

As we close the “ 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐍 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭 “ held on May 19–20 and organized by Ringier Events SE Asia, it was truly a valuable journey to witness the powerful rise of Clean Beauty in the region through meaningful insights and connections.

The Evolution of Clean Beauty

Clean Beauty is no longer a short-term trend or merely a marketing concept. It is gradually becoming a more responsible and sustainable direction for the global Beauty & Personal Care industry.

A Timeline of Consumer Consciousness

Its early momentum began in the United States during the 1980s–1990s, driven by individuals who no longer wanted to trade health for beauty.

However, the movement became more clearly defined around 2004 with the establishment of the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit and non-governmental organization, as consumers started paying closer attention to ingredient transparency, product safety, and the long-term impact of personal care products on human health. This period also marked the rise of platforms like EWG in promoting greater awareness around ingredient transparency and consumer safety.

In South Korea, Clean Beauty became more visible around 2020, when K-Beauty gradually shifted from a focus on “performance and experience” toward a more balanced approach centered on safety, transparency, sustainability, and greater responsibility toward both people and the environment.

The Post-Pandemic Paradigm Shift

After the COVID-19 pandemic, global consumers became even more conscious of wellness, holistic health, and sustainable personal care choices. This is one reason why many beauty brands are increasingly aligning with international reference frameworks such as EWG Verified®, COSMOS / Ecocert, Vegan, Cruelty-Free, and ISO 16128 to build trust and support long-term sustainable growth.

Accelerating Regional Growth Metrics

According to various international market reports, the Clean Beauty industry is projected to continue growing strongly, with an estimated CAGR of approximately 12.4–12.6% from 2026 to 2030, while the ASEAN region is expected to grow even faster at around 14–15% CAGR. This shows that Clean Beauty is no longer a niche trend — it is becoming an important part of the future of the beauty industry.

Beyond Certifications: The True Essence

But the essence of Clean Beauty does not lie in certifications alone.

At its core, Clean Beauty is about developing products that are gentle and safe for daily use better for people and better for the planet.

What truly matters is how we develop products through scientific evidence, transparency, integrity, and long-term responsibility toward consumer health and the environment.

A Sustainable Vision for Tomorrow

The future of beauty is not only about creating products that make people look better.

It is about helping them live healthier, choose wiser, and be cared for in a more sustainable way.
